The Event of a Lifetime! The Dorman Wedding

Our purpose for this web page/blog is for artists and art-lovers alike; to have a community where we can share ideas, techniques, points of view and of course, art!  We have found that here, in Central Pennsylvania, it poses a challenge to find artsy minds who get together on a frequent basis.  We will present articles and different ideas to aid in the creative process.  Dean and I think that having a community (virtual or not) for various creative outlets can be beneficial for all involved.

Let me give you some history on us and how we got to where we are today.  Dean picked up a camera for fun, taking pics of our family when Zak was born, sixteen years ago.  It proved to be a hobby over the next decade as our family grew and personalities came on board.  Living in Germany, he purchased his Nikon D70s which is when and where his hobby branched out.  Taking afternoon walks through European towns finding interesting events and people to capture, all the while meeting new people and learning his machine.  In 2006, he found himself plopped back in Central Pennsylvania and a lot of the luster with photography wore off . . . for a while.

I came into Dean’s life with the experience of a few years of professional modeling under my belt (which is a size 2 -model joke).  I had the opposite side of the camera that I had concerned myself with for years, so seeing Dean work was very curious to me.  I  asked a lot of questions and was genuinely interested and involved in what the answers were, even though I really didn’t understand much of anything.  Realistically, as a model everyone talks at or about  you, not to you; Dean was talking to me ; though I had been in many photo shoots, I hadn’t a clue what the photographer was doing.

Once I jumped that hurdle, Dean and I had fun taking posed photos of the kids, in costume or regular clothes, testing lighting effects, indoor ,outdoor.  We wanted to push the limits of his camera, get to the meat of it.  Realizing its limits, thus becoming our limits too,  the D300 came in the picture.

Die Strafbar Photography ultimately has no artistic limits, willing to put your creative genius to the test!  We have done, landscape HDRs, portraits, street photography, architecture, including a type of photography we call “Dormanizing”; where an image is captured at a certain angle, Dean can manipulate that to give the viewer the feel of a miniature scene.

Our goal is to give you a unique, high quality image that represents you without compromising the art or artistic approach.  Take, for instance, working with children or a family.  We’re not interested in having everyone posed and spotless like a toothpaste commercial, instead, we’d like to have you in a natural setting, doing natural things.  Sure, we will make suggestions, help you with clothes, hair and  make-up if needed but overall, we find that after 30 minutes of shooting with a groups or individuals we all get more relaxed and involved in capturing a mood or moment of life.

(and yes, we are aware of the irony of posting an un-processed, poorly exposed photo of us on our wedding day)
